Have you ever wondered why you dream? Do your dreams mean anything? What about nightmares? In this one-time class, we will cover the science behind dreaming. First, we look at the area of the brain responsible for dreaming and then cover the mechanisms of dreaming during REM-stage sleep. Dreams have a purpose for your brain! We will then discover the history of dreaming in other cultures and touch upon dream interpretation vs. science. Class will begin with a discussion of students' dreams......if students feel comfortable, they can share a dream they have journaled (journal page link provided). We will then begin a presentation on dreams with student interaction with the teacher throughout class. A question and answer session will close class. Students are encourage to print out or at least have looked at the dream journal link below. Dream journaling can continue beyond class as well. This class is an extension of The Science of Sleep class but though we will touch upon information talked about in that class, The Science of Dreams can be taken independently. Please note, fewer numbers of students may result in a shortened class time. There will be no refunds issued for a student(s) missing class.

I have been the Coordinator for a hospital-based sleep disorders lab for the last 14 years and am a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. I have worked with thousands of patients over the years with sleep disorders and one of the most common questions is about their dreams. How do dreams and science fit together? Well, dreams have a purpose for your brain! As a former middle school science teacher, let me lead your student on a quest to understand dreams.
