Sun 9th Apr 10) THE SAD DEATH OF BALDUR Sun 16th Apr 11) WEIRD BEASTS OF NORSE MYTH Sun 23rd Apr 12) RAGNAROK Classes starting in Feb and April will follow this same lesson pattern. In each of our weekly classes, we explore a different story or figure from Norse Mythology. Some of them you will know - like Thor and Loki - but some you might not know, like the myths of Sigurd and Bragi. This class is designed to be fun, conversational, rich and challenging. You can drop in whenever you want or take all the classes - they are not sequential, and do not build upon each other. If you have taken Greek of the Week, then you know what to expect - this is basically the Norse version of that class! Each week, I introduce our theme with questions and storytelling, and invite you to join in in whichever way is most comfortable with you. We often tell the story together, taking on the roles of different characters, but you only need to do what is comfortable. The Norse Mythology is a fascinating one. Unlike Greek myths, there are not lots and lots of sources, and the mythology is a lot smaller. The myths passed from person to person by word of mouth until the 13th century, when they were written down in collections called the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda. In our class, we bring these ancient stories to life, learning not just the mythology but the culture and history. The Vikings were the seafaring people who crossed the oceans, exploring the world, and often conquering and plundering along the way. The historical stories of the Vikings will sit alongside the Norse myths to give a broader understanding of the culture in which the myths were shared. This class might be especially interesting for fans of Rick Riordan's 'Magnus Chase' series - we will be sharing the very old tales that inspired Riordan's modern series, and you can spot links between them all. The one responsibility we have to each other is to be respectful and make space for everybody to share. We are all equally important and we are all unique - I want you to enjoy the class in the way that works for you, and I want you to build friendships with other Greeky fans. If you love learning about Ancient Greece, if you love mythology, if you enjoy the Percy Jackson series or even if you just want to learn new things, this is the place for you
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will gain a richer understanding of the mythology and the culture of the people who lived in Northern Europe/Scandinavia. Our questions will invite learners to use the myths to explore their own life too - their values, opinions and ideas.

Orientación para padres
Mythology is unavoidably dark in its themes, but as I have done with all of my Greek mythology classes, I make sure we tell the tales in a way that is age-appropriate. Any of the more graphic moments of the original source material are heavily sanitised with comedy, and no inappropriate themes are discussed.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a highly experienced primary school teacher, with an academic specialism in the teaching of mythology and poetry. My undergraduate study is in the field of the social sciences, with a focus on Social Anthropology, through which I engaged in the study of rite, ritual and myth.
Teaching mythology, both through my Greek of the Week classes and in East London schools, has become my main job, and area of expertise.
