The Magician's Nephew was originally published in 1955, and tells the story of the beginning of the fantastical land Narnia. In this novel Lewis introduces the origins of the iconic characters of Aslan the Lion and the evil Queen Jadis, who is known as the White Witch in other parts of the series. The novel follows the adventures of Polly and Digory, two children from London. Digory is living with his Aunt and Uncle while his mother recovers from an illness. Every day Polly and Digory - who live next door to each other - invent their own games in the attics of their houses. Digory's Uncle's office is off limits and one day the two stumble upon rings than transport them to the world between worlds where they awaken Jadis, an evil queen who has destroyed her own world and plans to return to London to take over that world as well.

This book study is the perfect introduction to The Chronicles of Narnia and explains how the world was created, the origins of the lamp post and how evil came to enter. This book study is also suitable if you have read 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' as Lewis said the books weren't intended to be read in any particular order although they were eventually arranged into a structured volume.

This class will have a weekly reading assignment of around 40 pages (3 chapters) per week, learners will need their own copy of the book.
