Historia, geografía y mitología de la tabla periódica

Which elements are named after Norse gods? What country gives gallium its name? Is there an element that is literally named because it stinks?! Learn the answers to these questions and more!

Note that I do offer a Part 2 for this class that covers even more elements! 

This 50 minute live class will explore the origins of the names of some of the elements of the periodic table. Many of the element names can be traced back to mythology, names of scientists, their properties, minerals, or geographic locations, and we will discuss examples of all of these in class. 

Class will be a mixture of instructor lecture and class input followed by a review of what we've learned to reinforce learning. If there is time at the end of class, there will be an optional activity where students can create their own name and symbol for a fictional element- otherwise, students can do it on their own after class and post their answers in the classroom to share with others!

No homework will be assigned in this class.
