Join our novel study of The Great Gatsby who has a party every single night to impress the beautiful Daisy whom he is in love with! The Great Gatsby is a love story, a mystery, and a social commentary on American society and its problems. Told from the perspective of Nick Carraway, a relatively poor neighbor of the infamous Jay Gatsby, the novel follows the story of four wealthy men and women who waste their lives on frivolous things. Gatsby, the mystery man next door, in particular, fascinates Nick who spends a lot of his time speculating about the man's background, his nightly parties, and his professional work. Through class students will engage in Socratic Seminar discussions where we spend time analyzing the novel and its story elements (including, but not limited to, character development, symbolism, theme, figurative language, and more!). Below is a schedule for the class that will be flexible in the sense that some topics may be covered over multiple classes while others might be moved to another week. Our discussion will dictate the topics of the week, but all topics will be covered throughout the class. If you have any questions, please let me know as I am happy to answer them all!

I have taught this novel every year that I professionally taught. I hope that students enjoy the powerful and exhilarating action novel of The Great Gatsby. It is something I have covered with sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school and have covered this novel in several Socratic Seminar discussion-based courses in tutoring sessions and in classic novel studies on Outschool. I am attaching links to those classes here for access to those classes and reviews on them.
