When you hear the name "Taylor Swift," so much comes to mind. You may think about her 14 Grammy Awards (with 52 nominations) or the $1.04 billion Eras Tour with 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates. However, among her successes, many also still refer to her as the country crossover that sings only about her ex-lovers. Her name can signal controversy or complete and utter euphoria - depending on who you talk to. This course will analyze Swift's appeal throughout her career. It will focus on close readings of her music and public discourse as it relates to her as an artist and a celebrity. We will talk about her journey through the industry while considering topics like copyright, the impact of social media, and feminism. Please refer to the syllabus for a full understanding of course content.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will develop an appreciation and understanding for Swift as a creative music entrepreneur, as well as understand the politics of the music industry as they relate to her career.
