The Chronicles of Narnia is a classic children's series that has captured the hearts of many for years. In this ongoing class, we will meet weekly to discuss these books in the style of a book club. Starting with the first book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, we will be reading each book for about three to four weeks and reading in the order of publication. As this is an ongoing class, it will be structured in the format of a book club and students are welcome to come and go as they please. If they have already read one of the books, they can skip those classes. This makes it easier for parents to schedule their learner's literature studies while still giving great flexibility. If a student jumps in halfway through the book, that is ok as we will start each class with a plot summary of previous chapters read, and then discuss only the chapters listed in the description for that day. This class is meant to be a fun way to explore the world of Narnia! For each discussion class, students will be asked to think of one question to ask the group. Asking questions is a great way to have students comprehend what they are reading, and the discussions that these questions will bring will help cement their understanding of the book. Each class will be structured accordingly: Start off with any relevant background information that will aid students in their discussions of the book and a plot summary of the previous chapters we read so as to help any students who couldn't make it to the last class or for students who are joining in halfway. Begin a discussion with overall thoughts on the chapters read. Give students the opportunity to ask the questions they crafted beforehand and discuss them with the group. Complete an activity to help with comprehension of the chapters read. Along with this structure, each week will focus on different elements of the book during our initial discussion. We will discuss character development, plot, setting, and literary devices throughout the three weeks we spend with each book. The main goal of this class is to encourage a love of reading and ensure that students are comfortable talking about books. If you have a shy learner, that is ok! Reminder, with the ongoing nature of this class, it is ok if you miss the first class on a book, as you will be able to jump in and discuss the chapters of that week. *if you do not see a time that works for you, please feel free to request another time* Schedule for book club: Week of: Feb 13-The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Chapters 1-5 Feb 20- The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Chapters 6-11 Feb 27- The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Chapters 12-17 March 6- Prince Caspian, Chapters 1-5 March 13- Prince Capsian, Chapters 6-10 March 20- Prince Caspian, Chapters 11-15 March 27- The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Chapters 1-4 April 3- The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Chapters 5-8 April 10 The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Chapters 9-12 April 17- The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Chapters 13-16 April 24- The Silver Chair, Chapters 1-5 May 1- The Silver Chair, Chapters 6-10 May 8- The Silver Chair, Chapters 11-16 May 15- The Horse and His Boy, Chapters 1-5 May 22- The Horse and His Boy, Chapters 6-10 May 29- The Horse and His Boy, Chapters 11-15 June 5- The Magician's Nephew, Chapters 1-5 June 12- The Magician's Nephew, Chapters 6-10 June 19- The Magician's Nephew, Chapters 11-15 June 26 The Last Battle, Chapters 1-5 July 3- The Last Battle, Chapters 6-10 July 10- The Last Battle, Chapters 11-16
