1-2 horas por semana. Students will be asked to complete reading outside of class time. During our classes, students will work through writing activities. The purpose of this is to challenge students to develop their writing ability and to continue to understand how to develop their writing and arguments on their own through multiple rounds of feedback and editing, both as a group and 1-1 with the teacher. If writing assignments are not finished in class, students will be asked to finish them as part of their homework.

Join us as we read two novels from one of the most famous fantasy authors of all time, C.S. Lewis. Through The Chronicles of Narnia, students will explore Narnia while participating in Socratic Seminar discussions, debates, analysis activities, writing prompts, symbolism activities, and more! We will explore many different literary devices that are in both novels but also the individual devices that make the author's writing style unique! We will be reading the first two of Lewis's Narnia novels: The Magician's Nephew (Book #1) and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Book #2).

Through our Narnia portion of the course, students will explore the first two of seven novels that make up the Chronicles. We will discuss the child-like whimsy and symbolism, allusion, and allegory which will be the main focus of these two novels as we explore how Lewis used child fantasy stories to write a complex allegory (a story within a story). We will be looking through the different chapters to gain a deeper understanding of the novel but to also appreciate the cultural influence the novel has had on the world.

Metas de aprendizaje

- Students will be able to identify the following literary elements: character and character development, genre, plot development and major plot points, symbolism, themes, and more!
- Students will engage in discussions and debates with one another as we explore more than just reading comprehension but also the complex decisions the author makes and its cultural and historical connections to the time period.
