This amazing 4 week course is for anyone from the casual history buff to the most serious of history students. In this course, we will look at the Revolution from the lens of those who lived it. We will look at the viewpoints of Patriots who opposed Britain, the Tories (Loyalists) who opposed breaking off from England, enslaved people who just wanted freedom- no matter where it came from, and Native Americans who were seemingly stuck in the middle and losing their land to all colonists. We will be looking each week how various people were affected- Patriots, Tories (Loyalists), enslaved Americans and Native Americans. I will be using resources from such vetted education sites as Teaching Tolerance, Gilder Lehrman American History, Standford History Education Group and Colonial Willamsburg (which provides re-enactments and resources for teachers) Week 1- Students will learn about colonists' life under Britain, colonial self government, and the French and Indian War and how it would put the United States on a crash course with the British Monarchy. Week 2 Students will learn about taxes imposed on the Colonies by the Monarchy. Colonial Protest over the taxes and organization by the Colonists will take center stage and some Hamilton Broadway Play Songs will appear! Students will also look at the Olive Branch Petition. Week 3 - The Revolutionary War starts! Students will look at the Declaration of Independence and the first shots fired at Lexington and Concord. Week 4- We will look at Revolutionary War Battles and how the tide turned to the Colonists (with the help of the French). Students will also explore the how the US Revolution would go on to spark the French Revolution and cries for "Viva La France"! The class will be interactive and be taught through slides, videos and primary source discussions among students.
