We will be discovering the USA by identifying and exploring the states one by one. This is an ongoing class covering one state a week until all fifty states as well as the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) have been covered. Since the class is circular, students can drop in at any point and continue until they have learned all 50 states. All learners will be expected to participate in class. I will be calling their names and asking them questions. I am open to making any needed accommodations to help your student thrive in class. Please let me know their needs. Each lesson will follow the same format. We will start with a fun warm-up question, review behavioral expectations, trace the shape of this week's state, and watch a short video about it. Students will learn fun facts including the state's population, motto, animals, trees, flag etc. A fun review game using NearPod will roundout our learning if there is time. We will learn the states in this order: **Message me about which state we'll be doing next and which day/time you are looking at: Week 1 (9/6): South Carolina Week 2 (9/13): North Carolina Week 3 (9/20): Illinois Week 4 (9/27): Indiana Week 5 (10/4): Iowa Week 6 (10/11): Wisconsin Week 7 (10/25): California Week 8 (11/1): Hawaii Week 9 (11/8): Pennsylvania Week 10 (11/15): Arizona Week 11 (11/29): Alaska Week 12 (12/6): Nevada Week 13 (12/13): Texas Week 14 (12/20): Virginia Week 28 (January 3): Wyoming Week 29 (January 10): Ohio Week 30 (January 17): Connecticut Week 31 (January 24): Idaho Week 32 (January 31): Alabama Week 33 (February 7): Kansas Week 34 (February 14): Missouri Week 35 (February 21): Louisiana Week 36 (February 28): Arkansas Week 37 (March 6): Michigan Week 38 (March 13): Nebraska Week 39 (March 20): Maryland Week 40 (March 27): Montana Week 41 (April 3): West Virginia Week 42 (April 10): Kentucky Week 43 (April 17): Colorado Week 44 (April 24): Georgia Week 45 (May 1): Delaware Week 46 (May 8): Minnesota. I am eager to have your learner join the students from 5-50 to whom I have taught English and American culture. Although my original BA is in Psychology, I have taught at three different universities abroad. I love students and I love to help them learn. I am eager to help North American students get a worldwide perspective drawing from my own experiences as a reader and a traveler.
