Inspired by Elizabeth Raum's youth history book, "The Dreadful, Smelly Colonies," this class provides a fun, one-meeting overview of primarily English Settlement in North America. Each of the thirteen colonies will be featured with three or four historical facts, a fun fact, and a foul fact. At the end of the course, we will play a kahoot together to review what we have learned. - Students will come away with some basic facts about the thirteen American Colonies such as dates of settlement, Europeans who traveled to the colonies, and a bit about the Native people who lived here when Europeans arrived. The fun and foul facts aim at the student remember something unusual and tying to one the U.S. States.
I have taught history lessons to more than 100 Outschool students from 9-17 years old, and before that I taught at the college level. I strive to be sensitive to students when presenting difficult or sensitive material.

Some of the information is gross, shocking, and possibly disturbing to sensitive learners, but it's intended to make the material more fun for middle school-aged learners. It's more along the lines of "Horrible Histories," which are gross but not visually disturbing.
