Thanksgiving is a holiday that is celebrated by many as a time to get together with family and share a big feast. Did you know that Thanksgiving, and the day after are two of the busiest days in a vet hospital? This holiday can mean travel or having family come to your home. All of this can be overwhelming for pets and can lead to a visit to the veterinarian if we don’t follow some important advice. In this class we will discuss some tips to keeping our pets safe and healthy over the holiday weekend. Topics include; Poison Risks Precautions for Parties Travel Concerns Learners may choose to create a poster, “Stuff Your Turkey, Not Your Pet” sharing some tips they learned so they can share with others. Supplies Needed: poster board, construction paper turkey (a cut out hand print will work, or create one another way), markers, and tape.

I have been a certified veterinary technician for more than 30 years, have a MEd from Colorado State University, a Master of Veterinary Education from Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, and have been teaching at a local colleges in both veterinary assistant programs and an equine studies program.
I have also taught a variety of veterinary science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. Prior to teaching I was in management at one of the largest veterinary practices in my state that included a 24 Hour regional veterinary emergency clinic. I spent many Thanksgiving and Christmas days at the emergency clinic and have lots to share from my experiences.
I am a lifelong learner myself and love sharing my excitement for learning!
I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, a Paint horse, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!
I am passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with all learners from diverse backgrounds from all around the world! If your learner has a dream to be a veterinary professional, then I am excited to help them on these first steps!
