Session 1 (1 hour): Icebreaker: Student introductions: This icebreaker will become a starting point for the students' elevator pitch. What is an "Elevator Pitch" - Instructor-led discussion Elements of a student Elevator Pitch - Instructor-led discussion Brainstorming Activity - all learners - What are two positive adjectives that describe you as a student or leader? - What are two of your personal strengths? - What are two personal successes? - What are two educational or career-related goals? Assignment - For the second session, use the knowledge from today's session to prepare a 3 minute pitch about yourself. Students will present their pitch verbally to all learners and the instructor during the second session. Session 2 (1 hour): What was challenging about this activity - Instructor-led discussion Activity - all learners - State your audience for your Elevator Pitch (fellow students, job interview, college interview?) - Each learner will provide their Elevator Pitch. After each Pitch, fellow learners can provide feedback, ask questions. Instructor will provide final feedback to each learner. Overall Summary of Learning Goals: Students will learn the critical skill of being able to talk concisely about oneself. Students will learn to synthesize elements of their education goals and successes; unique skills and abilities; and extracurricular activities into a 3 minute summary. The instructor recommends this class to learners between the ages of 15 to 18 only to allow for appropriate experience to successfully complete the activities.
