If your learner would benefit from some practical skills and strategies for navigating time management, planning, organizing, and completing tasks, developing a growth mindset, or would benefit from phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and/or writing tutoring, then you have landed on the right page!

The frontal lobe of the brain is responsible for executive functions including focus and working memory, decision making, impulse control, motivation, and completing tasks. When we experience frustration, the frontal lobe isn't able to do its job efficiently. Self-regulation and control may be influenced by heredity, but is a learned behavior that must be taught, and typically increases across the lifespan as new skills and techniques are acquired. In addition, our mindset heavily impacts how we perceive and experience learning and there is undeniable evidence to support how a growth, versus a fixed, mindset can increase motivation to learn.  

This tutoring session is designed for individual learning needs. I offer 1:1 Student Success Coaching, Reading tutoring anchored in the Science of Reading, and English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) using evidence-based approaches. My teaching philosophy is aligned with a cognitive constructivist approach to learning, and I believe every learner is capable of acquiring knowledge and building upon it commensurate with individual abilities. I also believe learning should be interactive and should be gamified at times. Teacher Tip: Tongue Twisters are a hilariously fun, but excellent way to practice reading fluency (accuracy, pace, expression)!  

I will incorporate as much scaffolding and modeling into my instruction as needed to ensure learner comfortability. I am sensitive to varying exceptionalities and the many cultural and social influences that affect learning and motivation. I believe establishing a good rapport is integral to the learning process. The first booked session will be an introductory session designed to build rapport and discuss desired tutoring and learning outcomes.
