📘 Join our biweekly journey through the SSYRA 6–8 list and grow your love for reading! This dynamic book club is designed for middle school readers who want to explore the Florida Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Grades 6–8 list while building confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills. We meet every other week to dive into one of the exciting books selected for this year’s SSYRA list. These engaging, student-approved novels explore diverse topics and perspectives while fostering deep reading and discussion. In each class, learners will: - Analyze plot twists, character motivations, and theme development - Engage in guided literary discussion and respond to open-ended questions - Share opinions, predictions, and reactions with peers - Strengthen speaking, listening, and evidence-based reasoning skills - Participate in optional creative or reflective activities related to the reading This club is perfect for students preparing for Battle of the Books, aiming to complete the full SSYRA list, or looking to connect with other thoughtful readers. 📚 Books are chosen from the official SSYRA Grades 6–8 2025–2026 list. Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. The SSYRA committee is comprised of 20 qualified school librarians located throughout the state of Florida, subdivided into two committees- grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. However, it is imperative that parents review the content of novels before allowing their child to read them to ensure they align with the values and beliefs you wish for your child to be exposed to.
Requisitos previos
Students must acquire a copy of the novel on their own, whether they purchase it or check it out from the library.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students will be required to have a copy of each novel being discussed for that particular class. You may choose to purchase the books or borrow them from your local library. Digital books and audiobooks are also great options!
