In this FOUR-week interactive, semester-long Spanish course, we will meet as a group THREE times per week for 45 minutes to learn Spanish. In the class students will develop the ability to understand and communicate in Spanish while playing games and having a ton of fun through reading short stories and class novels. Week 1Lesson 1Introductions, Calendar, Feelings, Weather, Numbers 1-30, Spanish countries.Students will learn different ways to greet each other, talk about the weather and calendar and discuss how they feel in Spanish. Students will learn how to form Spanish numbers 1-30 by playing a fun I Spy game. Students will also learn the Spanish speaking countries and capitals of South America. Students will learn how to say their age and birthday in Spanish.Lesson 2Colors, Numbers 30-100, Telling TimeStudents will learn how to form Spanish numbers 30-100. Number games (Bingo) will be played and students will discuss their age and birthdays in Spanish. Students will learn Spanish colors, play a colors sorry game and also read a story about colorful cats. Students will learn how to tell time in Spanish.Lesson 3Alphabet & Body PartsStudents will learn the Spanish alphabet. A fun marching song will be used to reinforce vocabulary. Students will begin to learn body parts by reading a story about Mr. Potato head. Students will draw their own Mr. Potato head.Week 2Lesson 4Descriptive adjectives, subject pronouns, the verb Ser and Edi Novel Chpt. 1Students will continue to learn more body parts in Spanish. Vocabulary will be reinforced through a short Spanish story called Monstruo en el Bosque. Students will learn descriptive adjectives, subject pronouns and the verb SER. Students will read chapter 1 of Edi novel.Lesson 5Edi El Elefante NovelStudents will read chapters 2-3 of the novel Edi El Elefante. Students will start to learn present tense verb conjugations. Present tense verb structures will be reinforced during this novel. Practice vocabulary and structures in a variety of fun and engaging activities.Lesson 6Edi El Elefante NovelStudents will read chapters 4-5 of the novel Edi El Elefante. - Students will acquire the Spanish language naturally while having fun reading stories in Spanish, learning new vocabulary words, and playing traditional games to reinforce vocabulary. This class will help students become more fluent and confident in the language. This class will also help students prepare for the national AAPPl language test (I do not administer this exam). The AAPPL test Exam is used to assess a student's proficiency in the language. Students that score high enough will be awarded the bi literacy seal.
I have been a certified Spanish teacher for the past 25 years. I have a masters in education. I lived and studied in Spain for several years so I have a true Spanish accent (castellano). I have attended CI (comprehensible Input) conferences and implement the CI teaching strategy into my lessons.

There will be minimal work to do outside of class, however, it is highly suggested that families encourage their children to practice the new vocabulary and concepts outside of the classroom. Practicing outside of class will give students the opportunity to relate the class material to their own life and environment which will help cement the new language in their brains.Evaluación

Edi El Elefante novel and Escape Cubano will be utilized during this class. Books can be purchased at Wayside publishing and Amazon if you would like your own copy. Youtube will be used to show videos. Quizlet will be used to reinforce class topics and vocabulary.
