Designed for 4th-6th graders, this interactive class takes students through an exciting novel while strengthening key reading skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and fluency. Through guided discussions, activities, and fun reading strategies, students will build confidence and a love for reading—just in time for the new school year!
Created by a teacher with over 10 years of experience, this class will help your child learn comprehension skills that will improve their grades and reading enjoyment. We will read through Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Students will be given a comprehension game through chat each week to assess reading growth and trouble areas. We will take turns reading aloud in class. Students may choose to pass, but this will help to improve fluency. Number the Stars is a historical fiction novel set during World War II, focusing on a young girl’s bravery in Nazi-occupied Denmark. While the book is written for children and avoids graphic violence, it does include serious themes that parents should be aware of:
