This is a summer introduction or review course that focuses on intermediate phonics skills each week. Your child will have the opportunity to learn by watching and practicing. There will be various read alouds, informational videos, songs, and hands on activities that your child will be engaged in. You can join for specific weeks or all of July and August. Here are the topics that will be covered: Week of July 4th: Long a Learners will learn and/or review all of the ways to make the long a sound including: a_e, ai, ay, ei, ey, eigh, ea, a Learners will learn and/or review these 8 ways to make the long a sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of July 11th: Long e Learners will learn and/or review all of the ways to make the long e sound including: e_e, ee, ea, ei, ie, y, ey, e Learners will learn and/or review these 8 ways to make the long a sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of July 18th: Long i Learners will learn and/or review all of the ways to make the long i sound including: i_e, igh, y, y_e, ie, i Learners will learn and/or review these 6 ways to make the long i sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of July 25th: Long o Learners will learn and/or review all of the ways to make the long o sound including: o_e, oa, ow, oe, o Learners will learn and/or review these 5 ways to make the long o sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of August 1st: Long u Learners will learn and/or review all of the ways to make the long u sound including: u_e, ue, eu, ew, oo, ou, u Learners will learn and/or review these 7 ways to make the long u sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of August 8th: Dipthongs oi & oy Learners will learn and/or review the oi and oy sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of August 15th: Dipthongs ou & ow Learners will learn and/or review the ou and ow sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. Week of August 22rd: Complex Vowel Sound aw & au Learners will learn and/or review the aw and au sound. They will have the opportunity to tap out and write these words. They will practice manipulating these words by changing initial, medial, and final sounds to make new words. They will practice reading these words alone, in short stories, and in poems. These concepts will be woven in throughout the course as well: ~Syllables ~Rhyming ~Segmenting/sounding out ~Building words ~Substituting sounds ~Word manipulation ~Word meanings ~Synonyms ~Antonyms
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn and practice different sounds that phonemes make. They will be able to build, manipulate, write and read words based off of the sounds taught. Students will be able to rhyme and break words into syllables.

Students need paper, pencil, coloring materials, glue/tape for each class. There will be documents to print for class that will be posted to the classroom page prior to each meeting.

Hello! My name is Maria Ramirez. I have a masters degree in elementary education from Simmons University. I hold a Massachusetts teaching license for grades 1-6 and a Moderate Disabilities License for PreK - 8. I have been teaching children for over 16 years in charter, public, private, online schools, homeschool, and internationally during the school year and summer. I am passionate in finding fun and engaging ways to teach. I believe in nurturing each student's curiosity and excitement to learn through hands on exploration and discovery. I am a mother to two children ages 7 and 9. We love to spend time vegetable and fruit gardening, taking care of our chickens, painting, going on nature walks, and reading books together.
