Get ready to get creative this summer! In this 10-week summer club, we will work with a new prompt (story starter) each week, and you will write a short story based on that prompt! Feel free to draw a picture to go along with your story too! With each prompt, we will also review and focus on a different writing-related concept each week, such as dialogue, plot, point of view, and characterization. This class is aimed at beginning to intermediate-level writers, so no previous creative writing experience is necessary! The focus will be on developing quick-write fiction to practice your writing skills and expand your creativity! This class does not build week-to-week, so feel free to drop in or out as needed around your family's summer plans! Prompt themes and writing topics will be listed ahead of time, so you can choose which classes you would like to attend. Our classes will follow a format similar to the following: -Greetings -Mini-lesson on a writing-related concept -Introduce the writing prompt/story-starter (connected to the mini-lesson) -Brief planning period/pre-writing time -In-class time to write and draw! I'll be checking in here and there throughout this time. -Class wrap-up, and students will have the opportunity to share completed works or works-in-progress (and no worries if you're not finished by the end of class! You can definitely continue working on it during the week!) Schedule with planned prompt and writing topics: -Week of June 23: Choose a door, Plot -Week of June 30: Communicating with aliens, Dialogue -Week of July 7: An animal's new home, Point of View -Week of July 14: Hero vs. Villain, Characterization -Week of July 21: Solving a mystery, Foreshadowing -Week of July 28: A new planet to explore, Setting -Week of August 4: Objects around the house, Personification -Week of August 11: Scary stories, Mood -Week of August 18: Fable writing, Morals/Theme -Week of August 25: Write/draw your own comic!
