*This class is offered in live and self-paced formats. You are viewing the self-paced format. This class is an authentic learning environment where the focus is on concept delivery and guidelines realized through self-discovery. Learners will transfer pattern, pitch, and rhythm activities to the piano instrument and begin to play like the professionals do. Learners will: 1. read music notation as a set of instructions through standard notation for pitch and rhythm. 2. learn the hand patterns to perform various standard piano accompaniment patterns 3. use individual notes to make melodies and chords 4. apply their creativity to the piano to make new music using a formulaic pattern equivalent to most pop or rock songs The role of the teacher will be to guide learners through a piano playing experience that involves creating, performing, responding, and connecting with music through the guidance of music theory creating an interdisciplinary, application experience of thought and performance practice on the piano. Learners will have an achievement checklist that meets the below standards for composition/theory of music as detailed in the National Standards for Music Education: MU:Cr1.1.C.Ia Describe how sounds and short musical ideas can be used to represent personal experiences, moods, visual images, and/or storylines. MU:Cr2.1.C.Ia Assemble and organize sounds or short musical ideas to create initial expressions of selected experiences, moods, images, or storylines. MU:Cr3.2.C.Ia Share music through the use of notation, performance, or technology, and demonstrate how the elements of music have been employed to realize expressive intent. MU:Pr4.3.C.Ia Develop interpretations of works based on an understanding of the use of elements of music, style, and mood, explaining how the interpretive choices reflect the creators’ intent. Learners are encouraged to use the practice pauses built in to the pre-recorded lessons and embark on a self-discover y journey how notes, patterns, scales & chords, and improvisation work together to create known and new music. Learners are further encouraged to try new ideas, email the teacher with questions, give feedback, and share their developing style. We will all learn and grow together.

For over a decade, I have provided music instruction for PreK through high school across all types of instruments and ensembles. My students have gone on to successful careers with many of them teaching or performing music as their career. My skills of learning one instrument and being able to effectively transfer that understanding to many other instruments have served me well as a school music educator and earning a Master's of Music from the University of Tennessee for general, vocal, and instrumental education. Much of my skills and expertise have come from studying in an interdisciplinary fashion. Those who choose to learn from me will experience that in my teaching and manner of presentation connecting skills to prior experiences or real-world applications. I have been recognized in the music education industry for my innovative teaching and a dedication to ensuring my students receive appropriate teaching methods that help them effectively and safely develop their potential. Thank you for making me part of your journey.
