***This class is part of the Studio Ghibli Series. Each class will be on a particular Studio Ghibli film and focus on a particular theme. Each class is different as some are geared for young learners, to high school level lectures, and middle school discussions. Some classes are also art classes. Please read the descriptions in it's entirety.*** In this class, we are watercoloring a Totoro painting, from My Neighbor Totoro! This class is designed for the student to be familiar with the film and to discuss certain aspects that is found throughout the film. Students will watch a step-by-step instruction by Mrs. V and follow along as a class. Students will then paint their Totoro in watercolor. While students are working on their project, some interesting facts will given specifically on the character, Totoro. Students are encouraged to work on their artwork, while being educated on the film and character. No background experience is required! This class will be presented via powerpoint and is an art based class. This is a LIVE class and is NOT pre-recorded. This is so the students can interact with the teacher and ask questions during instruction. Some homework may be necessary as students can finish their painting. No writing or independent reading is necessary.

Please prep your students station. While drawing, it is best to work on a flat surface. When painting with watercolor, it is best to work at an angled surface. Some options to help is to tape (painters tape/blue tape) the watercolor paper to a flat surface or work in a watercolor sketchbook. Then, prop it against a cereal box, a shoe box, textbook, etc.
If you have never used painters tape before, make sure to test it BEFORE on a scrap sheet of paper to make sure it won't rip the artwork when removing the tape.

I have been teaching the Studio Ghibli series on Outschool since February 2018. I am a huge Hayao Miyazaki fan and have been studying his work for a number of years. I have been a personal fan for over 25 years. My classes focus on Hayao Miyazaki himself and I conduct lecture courses on other Studio Ghibli films (ex. Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke).
I also conduct dozens of different types of anime drawing courses.
My art teaching practices focus on art, anime, Studio Ghibli, My Hero Academia, watercolor, drawing, sketching, and more.
