Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
In this ongoing class, students will learn new vocabulary and literary terms, how to listen actively to a story, and to set and achieve goals. During the class, students will first be given a goal for the class to achieve. Then, the students will listen to a children's story. During the reading of the story, students will be actively trying to achieve the goal. As I read, I may pause every so often to discuss something with the students regarding the class goal. After the story is read, we will have a whole group discussion about the goal and whether or not it was met and why. We will close with questions and reflections from any students if they have anything to say. This class will rely heavily on listening and participating in discussions. Students will get to interact with both myself as the teacher and other students in the class. Before joining the class, a student doesn't really need to have any prior experience or knowledge apart from knowing that books can be read and words carry meaning. They do, however, need a quiet, comfy space to listen and engage with their teacher and classmates as well as some space to move around, paper, and coloring utensils. Make sure these things are readily available for class.

This class will have monthly themes which will relate to the time of year and holidays. Below is a list of children's books and weekly topics that will be discussed in April and May. The topics of vocabulary, characters, setting, and theme will cycle back each month, so if you can't attend a class where the class discusses vocabulary in a story, you can join a session on vocabulary in the next month. Please feel free to join every class and each session or pick and choose the days and sessions that suit your student best! Since these classes do not build on knowledge learned in previous session, you are welcome to join any and every class.

Metas de aprendizaje

Learning goals for each lesson will be clearly stated at the beginning of the lessons. Students will have a deeper appreciation for reading and a broader understanding of the fact that words carry meaning literally and figuratively after taking a few of these classes.

Orientación para padres
The books that I will be sharing with the students will not include content that is for older students. These will all be children's books. If there happens to be a book with a topic that might be questionable, parents will know beforehand per the class prior or the class description/schedule. In the months of April/May, we will have one story which includes the tooth fairy and talk about celebrating our differences.

1. Second and Seven Reading Program--In college, I volunteered as a reader to second grade classrooms around the city of Columbus. I read stories to them which were about good qualities of people and led discussions about the books I read.
2. Student Teacher--I student-taught in a second grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom. While in those classrooms, I had many opportunities to read to groups of between 3-25 students at a time and lead discussions. I also helped my mentor teachers create engaging activities for the students to complete which reflect the stories and contents we read about.
