La hora del cuento con el títere Charlie y el juego de comprensión lectora

Class Title: Story Time with Charlie the Puppet and Reading Comprehension Game  
Ages: 4-7
One time class; 25 minutes long  (I’d love to do this as a multi-day, weekly class if there is interest)

The title of the story for this class is, “You Get What You Get” by Julie Gassman
It is about little Melvin, who handles disappointments by throwing fits. His teacher’s class rule is, 
“You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit,” which he really dislikes since it doesn’t allow him to behave as he does at home. In this class, I will use my sock puppet, Charlie, to add fun and interaction. 

To activate background knowledge and explain vocabulary, we will discuss what disappointments are. Charlie and I will interact with the learners as the story is read. The class learners will  then become a team and compete against Charlie in a Quiz Show game, which has reading comprehension questions based on what we read. 

We will end by reminding the learners to remember and implement Melvin’s new saying, “You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit” by showing appropriate behavior when disappointments come along.  I will explain that it is good to express our feelings and not keep them bottled up, but we need to do it in an appropriate way.  Lastly, I’ll encourage the learners to discuss with their parent(s) what is “appropriate” behavior to express their anger, sadness, and frustration since it might vary from family to family.
