***MATERNITY LEAVE: I will be taking time off for maternity leave beginning in January. At this time, I plan to resume classes in April. I will update any changes here. I hope to see your learners back in class to talk all about mythology and fairy tales soon! :) *** In this class, we will study the history and mythology and legends of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark and gain all the benefits of travel from the comfort of our own homes. Students in this class will learn facts about history and culture through the lens of popular myths and legends. Your child will learn to apply concepts from the core subjects of social studies, history, and literature. At the end of the lesson, we will develop critical thinking skills by discussing which character, story, or creature each student found most interesting and why, followed by an analysis of what each character or creature tells us about the region, the people who live there, and those who lived there many centuries ago. We will start with a brief overview of what "Scandinavia" means! We will include Norway, Sweden, and Denmark and learn about history, concentrating on important events that have shaped the people and society of these countries with an emphasis on the history of Vikings. Next, students will hear stories that define the culture and traditions of Scandinavia. We will focus on the locations of each of these stories and their lasting importance and influence. We close with students sharing and discussing their favorite story or figure from class. This is a stand-alone class and no previous knowledge or work is necessary. Students will receive a printable "Story Explorer" passport and a stamp for Scandinavia. They can collect more "Story Explorer" passport stamps by signing up for additional "Story Explorer" classes!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will come away from this class with an understanding of how stories shape and are shaped by people and cultures and gain a genuine excitement for storytelling.

Please be sure to print the Scandinavia stamp and one passport (pick the color of your choice - you only need one!). It is not necessary to have it assembled prior to class time, as this is just for fun. You can add your new stamp to your passport, and sign up for another "Story Explorer" class to collect more!

Hi parents and learners! My name is Alexandra and I love stories of all kinds.
I offer classes that survey stories from all over the world, including mythology, folklore, fairy tales, legends, literature, and true history. My classes teach students how to interpret stories in their historical and cultural context. I believe that the best way to learn about history and different cultures is through the stories a country, tribe, or any group of people tell about themselves and pass down to their own children.
I earned my degree in history from the University of California, Riverside, with an emphasis on ancient and medieval history. I studied abroad at the University of Oxford as part of my undergraduate degree.
I have been working with students ages five to eighteen over the last ten years as a teacher’s assistant, substitute, one-on-one tutor, and homeschool teacher.
I look forward to seeing you in a class and sharing stories that matter!
