Club de cuentos

This ongoing class meets once a week and will teach learners how to tell their stories using the storytelling arts; song creative writing, poetry, and oral storytelling. The goal of this camp is not a comprehensive understanding of each of these mediums, but to give students an opportunity to find their own voices,  And to have lots of fun! In each class students will learn about the medium of that day, see examples, then work as a class, or individually to create works of their own.


 Week 1 4/12- Songwriting- Stream of Consciousness- Let's use this free-form exercise to write a song together!
Week 2 4/19- Creative Writing- Stream of Consciousness - Let's use this free-form exercise to create our own stories!
Week 3 4/26- Poetry- What's a poem?- Let's learn what a poem is then try our hand at writing one.
Week 4 5/3- Oral Storytelling- What is oral storytelling?- Let's watch some examples of oral storytelling then improve our own story together!
Week 5 5/10- Songwriting- Imagination Building - Let's write a song about our favorite mythological creature.
Week 6 5/17- Creative Writing- Imagination Building - Let's use our imagination to visit far away places and then write a story about it.
Week 7 5/24- Poetry- Write like your favorite poem. What's your favorite poem? What makes it your favorite? Let's learn from your favorite poem and write something with the same theme, tone or rhyme scheme
Week 8 5/31- Oral Storytelling- Share your story.- Let's pick our favorite story or poem from class and present it!
