Every two years the world comes together to compete and celebrate the best athletes in the world. Over the years the Olympics and the athletes have made history and have been shaped and changed by history, by looking at the stories of some of the athletes who competed and made history on their own. Because, who doesn’t love a good story? In this 4 day 55 minute class we’ll look at a few of those stories and what they have to teach us about history, the world and ourselves. After sharing the stories we'll spend time discussing them in class. As we look at different athletes I want each student to be able to see a part of themselves in one or more of them and be inspired through hearing their story. Some of the stories we will look at are: -Spyridon Louis: The National Greek Hero -Margaret Ives Abbott: The Unwitting Olympic Champion -Jesse Owens and Luz Long: The Unlikely friends -Birgir Ruud: The Comeback King -Eugenio Monti: Good Sportsmanship Pays off -The Munich Massacre: The Saddest day in Olympic History -Dan Jansen: Overcoming tragedy -Kerry Strug: Fighting through pain Each day we'll look at stories from different times of Olympic History: Week 1: 1896-1932 Week 2: 1936-1964 Week 3: 1968-1992 Week 4: 1994- #academic

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.
I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.
I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
