Students will be pick one company to research and use the internet (a specific web site will be provided) to complete an stock information sheet using Yahoo Finance. Once we begin trading stocks in the stock market simulation game, students can trade on their own, as much or as little as they like. For each trade they make, students should write down why they bought or sold the particular stock. To research stocks, company and economic news, we use Yahoo Finance (finance.yahoo.com). It is a free, well known and respected site for news and financial information. The investment game we use is howthemarketworks.com, which is the industry standard for teachers. It is used throughout the US and Canada to provide a simulation platform where students can safely invest in the stock market with fake money. No financial risk at all but a great learning experience of investing in real companies. We use Wall Street Survivor, and educational site with easy to follow, engaging videos on several investing topics such as stock indexes, fractional investing, unrealized gains and losses.
All content used in this course is age appropriate and does not include any sensitive topics (political, sexual, violent, etc.).
