Manualidad con palabras STEM: edición Minecraft

Every class will follow a basic pattern:

The first part of class will go over the prefixes, suffixes, roots and bases for the lesson. These will change every class. This particular course will focus strictly on STEM vocabulary.

There will be a short in-class assessment to make sure all students have grasped the content before moving on. This will be a mixed written and verbal format.

The majority of the lesson will be spent in Minecraft on the in-class building assignment. Students will need to create 3 words from the day’s vocabulary chunks, create a build to demonstrate the meaning of each word, and post a sentence using each word next the build.

There will be incentives for grades and behavior, as the last portion of the class will be a free play in Minecraft using whatever items their grade and behavior has earned them.





Calendar:
**PLEASE NOTE: The first two classes will focus on making sure students have fully grasped the mechanics of a new class. The STEM focus will start in lesson three.

The first class will cover the function of roots, bases, prefixes, and suffixes.

The second class will cover the prefixes [a-, im-, il-, and ir-] and the suffixes [-al, -s, -ly, and -ic]. This class will encourage learners to come up with their own base words so as to most efficiently build their skill with using prefixes and suffixes.

The third class will start an almost normal curriculum format for this course. This class will give special attention to the number prefixes (uni/mono, di/bi, tri, quad, etc). The bases for the class will be [astro and hydro] and there will be no suffixes this lesson.

The fourth class will be the normal format, and cover the prefixes [demi and semi], the bases [sol and luna] and the suffixes [-ate and -ide].






The overall teaching style for the lesson will be a mix of lecture and class discussion, with an opportunity for one-on-one feedback during the build portion. I will be focusing mostly on correct grammar usage, spelling, and clarifying word meanings.
