Dive into the exciting world of spies as we learn how to break secret codes! We will discuss how codes and code-breaking helped win WW2, as well as other historical uses of code. Students will learn the various processes they can use to break a code, and how to write a nearly unbreakable code. We will get to use our new skills as a team with some hands-on practice. Students will receive some codes they can break after class as well. Some of the topics we will touch on include: Julius Ceasar and Ceasar Cyphers Other Monoalphabetic Codes Navajo Codebreakers Frequency Analysis Alan Turning, Marian Rejewski and breaking the Engima Code in WW2 We will learn how to make and break simple substitution codes, the Vigenère square, and more. Students will utilize logic and critical thinking skills while having lots of fun. Be ready for lots of secret codes at your house after class!

By profession, I am an Ecology Instructor at a local College Environmental Education Center. I have 15 years of experience teaching Math, Science, and History, and multi-disciplinary classes at the elementary, middle, and high school level. I am also a homeschool mom of 3 and co-op director. I love teaching through hands-on activities including experiments, games, and real-world adventures. Science and math classes are my current specialties, but I also love to teach adulting skills, and fun game-based or craft-based multidisciplinary classes.
I am a Google Certified Educator and a certified Vex Robotics Instructor and I have been designing escape rooms for decades!
