This course will provide an introduction to and exploration of four main concepts: Gender Identity Spectrum Sexuality Spectrum Biological Sex Spectrum Advocacy and Allyship -We will explore how gender identity is constructed and changes across time and place and current and emerging gender identities. -We will discuss a spectrum of sexualities, including ACE/ARO and queer identities, and the difference between platonic, romantic, and sexual attraction. We will also discuss consent in this section. -We will examine the range of biological genders and the prevalence of intersex genders according to the latest science. -We will discuss our lived experiences of gendering through peer interactions, media, and cultural expectations and how they affect our sense of self and perception of others. We will contextualize the discussion of gender and sexuality within the intersectional framework and how other identities we carry may affect us. Class Schedule: Monday: Introduction to terms and focus on biological sex spectrum Tuesday: Deep dive into gender from a sociological, historical, and psychological perspective Wednesday: Sexuality spectrum, including ACE and ARO identities. Will also discuss consent and safety. Thursday: Collaborative project on gendering in society and learning to identify how and when gender norms change Friday: Intersectionality of Gender, Sexuality, and Biological Sex. Advocacy, rights, and allyship. I will use a combination of lectures and videos to teach the material, interspersed with discussion and activities. This class will be appropriate for 12-14 year olds and will not discuss sexual behavior in detail. We will discuss attraction and consent and how power distance affects consent.

Students will understand the difference between gender, sexuality, and biological sex, and how each is a spectrum. They will be able to reference up-to-date science and be prepared to explore these topics at an intermediate level.

ADHD & Dyslexia Friendly. I will provide close captioning and a recording. No more than 30% of the class will be lecture. We will change tasks frequently, and students can participate with or without camera.

There will be discussion of how LGBTQ prejudice affects kids and families and how gender norms affect development.
