Any work that is not finished within the lesson can be completed in the learners' free time however this is optional. I am more than happy to accept work outside of lesson times from children who were unable to share their ideas during the class or were unable to get their writing completed.Experiencia de clase

Look at the picture in the thumbnail. Who lives here? Is it haunted? If so, why and by whom? Is the inside how you expect it or something different? If you are intrigued, then you should stop by our Spooky Season Creative Writing lessons. Each week learners will be provided with either a picture prompt (like the thumbnail) or a written prompt (e.g. "The ghost did knock first") and all activities for that lesson will focus on this prompt. Prompts will be different every week as will the activities. This allows your learner to practise and develop many different writing skills. The class aims to encourage a love of writing in learners and give them a safe space to share their ideas with like-minded individuals. We want to get their imaginations firing so they create beautiful works of fiction! With it being the Halloween season, lessons will focus on spooky, horror and mystery themes! The lesson will be based on a discussion of the prompt, with children being encouraged to share their ideas with their peers and the teacher. Classes are usually split into 15 minutes of initial discussion, 30 minutes of writing, and then 15 minutes of sharing ideas. All prompts will be posted in the classroom ahead of the lesson so children have time before the class to examine it and think of ideas. Monday 9th September: Eye of the Storm Topic - Mystery/Story Writing During this lesson, students watch a short video called Eye of the Storm which includes a mysterious individual and their pet dragon. We will discuss the video and look at how the scene is set to make it part of the mystery genre. We will also discuss any questions the video brings to mind. Finally, children will have the opportunity to write the opening for a mystery story. Monday 16th September: Haunted house - Setting Description This week we will be focusing on picture prompts of old and abandoned houses. What do they have in common? Why might something think they're haunted? We will look at vocabulary and figurative devices to create our own haunted house. Monday 23rd September: Murder Mystery - Newspaper Reporting This week children will be asked to get their detective hats on. They will investigate a mysterious photograph taken just before a crime occurred and use their inference skills to piece together what they think happened as the photo was being taken. From this, children will create a newspaper-style report explaining what they have found. Monday 30th September: Francis - Building Tension in Writing During this lesson, the class will watch a ghost story about a missing girl called Francis. This film is a perfect lesson in building tension, the narrator uses pauses and varies the speed at which he speaks in order to build the tension. We will be examining how to translate this into our writing.

Orientación para padres
With the lessons being Halloween-themed, expect genres, such as horror, which may be upsetting for certain children. While all material used is age-appropriate, some learners may not wish to take part in certain lessons for this reason. All prompts for the lessons will posted in the classroom ahead of time, therefore parents can make an informed decision as to whether that particular lesson is right for their child.
Lista de útiles escolares
Children will require something to write on and something to write with, or a computer to type up their ideas.
