This class is a FLEX class. This means that you will receive a video recording of the lesson. I will teach the rule, and then have children spell words. They will be asked to pause the recording, spell the word, unpause it, and then check to see if it is spelled correctly.
We will discuss why the word is spelled that way, and review syllables that were taught in the first Spelling Rules for Older children class. (Open syllables, closed syllables, r-controlled vowels, VCE words, etc)

Homework with 10 spelling words will be assigned. The homework will need to be printed. It will not be turned in, but it is helpful if it is completed.
Three times during the week the students will be asked to participate in more learning regarding the spelling rules or their spelling words.
A question about a spelling rule or spelling word will be asked. (Can you find words that we haven't spelled that have a long o sound? or Use the spelling word moistness in a sentence, or Can you find a word with an open syllable and C + l-e syllable.)

Students may create their own video explaining the rule
Students may be asked to answer the "challenge questions"
Students may be asked to post a picture of a sentence they created and their drawing
Games like Jeopardy may also be played.
At the end of the week, they will take a spelling test and have a short quiz on the spelling rule. I will grade this and return it to them. (Kahoot)

The lessons are as follows:
Week 1: Review Syllables and work on "er"
Week 2 - Work on "ar" sounds, review "er"
Week 3 - Work on "or" sounds, continue to review "er"
Week 4 - Work on soft c words - c makes /s/ sound like in celebrate
Week 5 - Work on soft g words - g make /j/ sound like in giant
Metas de aprendizaje
Children will spell multi-syllable words using the rules that are taught.

Hi, I'm Rachel Capes! 🌟

I have an Early Childhood Degree and a Master's in Literacy. I spent 12 amazing years teaching 4th and 5th graders, and Kindergarten SPED in public schools. I even got to be a math and literacy coach!

Now, I homeschool my four wonderful kids. One is gifted, two are right where they should be, and one has a learning disability. This time at home has given me a deeper understanding of all learning styles.

I believe learning should be hands-on and fun! Kids should be excited about math and reading.

In math, we use manipulatives, drawing, and algorithms to make learning engaging. When we meet more than once, kids get to share how they solved problems and explain their thinking.

In reading, we dive into books, discuss vocabulary, explore literary elements, analyze characters and plots, and make predictions. Everyone gets to share their thoughts and opinions while respecting others'.

I love to read, be outdoors with my kids, and this year we're learning to garden together. 🌱

I also teach World History and Geography at an accredited homeschool group.

Let's make learning an adventure! 🎉📚✨
