Despite modern physics having a reputation of being very difficult to comprehend, this course first introduces, then dives into the subject in a manner accessible to students. They will have the opportunity to learn about relativity in a captivating and engaging environment. This class is based on the famous prediction of time dilation first discovered by Albert Einstein. The class will begin with an overview of velocity vs. speed. Then, students will use what they know about classical physics to determine the outcome of various experiments related to relativity. They will leave the class with a firm understanding of how time can be slowed down or even stopped and how this process relates to the speed of light. This course is on specialized topics within modern physics. The course will stray away from complex mathematics to be more accessible to students of all mathematical levels. There are no prerequisites for this class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a former physicist with an undergraduate degree in physics with high departmental honors from the University of Maryland, and a graduate degree in geophysics from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. I have worked alongside other scientists in a variety of labs including the Cryospheric Sciences Laboratory at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry at the National Atmospheric and Oceanographic Administration, and the Physics Department at the University of Maryland. Since becoming an educator, I have led talks and facilitated discussions for adolescents and adults in a variety of scientific topics including quantum mechanics and superstring theory.
