Hello my name is Arelis.
I started teaching at a home school facility where I taught a variety of different classes including: Spanish, Spelling, 1st and 2nd grade Science, and a few other classes. A few years later I started working at a private school teaching Spanish to all grades (kindergarten through high school). I have been a teacher for over 12 years. Teaching Spanish has been such an amazing experience because I have had the privilege of sharing my culture with some of the most amazing students. My parents are from Puerto Rico so growing up I learned both Spanish and English. I love teaching Spanish to elementary age students because I use music and motion to help them learn new words and phrases with an amazing Spanish program. I do this with the older students, but some seem too sophisticated for my silly dances. I do however teach older students how conjugate verbs in Spanish using a variety of charts.
I have also earned my Certification in Personal Training with a specialization in Youth Exercise, Corrective Exercise and MMA Conditioning through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I have had the privilege of being a CrossFit Kids coach and I have taught Health and BPE to 9th grade. Working with kids and teens is very fulfilling. As a coach I love when my students run up to me excited to have mastered a new skill we have been working on. It brings me so much joy to know that I have helped them achieve their goals. Being a Personal Trainer I have realized the importance of staying active.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Ministry and had the amazing opportunity to work with a youth pastor in teaching a type of character development/ leadership class to at-risk teens in a local high school. I would like to offer character development and leadership classes to teens and preteens. It is important to me that I use my talents to help students realize their full potential and help them to become confident leaders in their community. I believe this next generation is filled with world changers and it is up to us to cultivate their talents with tenderness, care and compassion.
