Club de lectura de español para principiantes

This course is designed for the beginner who enjoys reading and wants to try using their beginner Spanish knowledge to read a chapter book in Spanish. This is a great way to enhance current Spanish proficiency or for maintenance purposes. The book is designed for early language learners who have already had at least a semester of Spanish. The class meets for 40 minutes once a week for 10 weeks. This class would be a great addition to a semester Spanish course or conversation class to reinforce and enrich the Spanish a student has learned or is learning in a semester Spanish course.    This is a perfect book for beginning language learners for elementary, middle school, and high school classes. Students will learn more about South American animals, the water cycle, and deforestation as Carlos finds his way through a story with science and social studies cross-curricular content with only 55 new words in Spanish.

Normal capybaras swim well. Carlos is the only capybara in the Amazon Rainforest who can’t swim. Things don’t look good for Carlos away from the water.

Course Outline / Topics

‣Week 1: Book introduction and pre-reading activities
‣Weeks 2-9 Read 2 chapters, complete comprehension activities and extended vocabulary connections.
‣Week 10: Final book review, games and final project presentations

The class is primarily taught in Spanish. English is used for activity clarification and explanation. 

The purpose of this course is to be fun and build confidence in a learner's ability to understand Spanish. Students will strengthen their language learning skills through reading and understanding a beginner level comprehensible novel in Spanish.
