A typical music class with atypical teacher, music selections and lots of learner participation. We will "makeover" song lyrics in selections from different music styles.; emphasizing meter and rhyming rules consistent with classic poetry. This is a great starting point for beginners interested in either writing song lyrics or poetry. Song parody has made some musicians and bands financially successful. I will use examples from Cledus Judd (country), Jake Trout and the Flounders (PGA Golf) and Twisted Radio (Winter Holidays) as vehicles to discuss approaches that sometimes work great and sometimes misss the mark. We will take some short and very simple children's school songs and modify those in real time together. Learners may bring their own song selections to the gathering. Anyway, the learners will be proud of what they create.
