Join Miss Mackenzie in learning Social Studies and Geography curriculum while also having fun! Learners will learn various Social Studies and Geography standards through interactive slides and activities. All of the topics covered in these courses are based off of various state standards for first grade social studies. Multiple topics covered in this class are based on Social Studies in the United States. However, I recognize that many Outschool learners are from all over the world and they are ALL welcome in my class! This ongoing class will be great for an advanced kindergartener, current first grader, or second grader that could use some review! Each week will cover different standards: **************************************************************************************************************************************** Monday Classes: 11/4: Past, Present, and Future 11/11: Good Citizenship 11/18: Timelines 11/25: Goods, services, and jobs 12/2: Producers & consumers 12/9: NO CLASS 12/16: Supply & Demand 12/23: Wants and Needs 12/30: Spending and Saving 1/6: History of Exchange (Barter, Trade, Money) 1/13: Types of Communities (Rural, Urban, Suburban) 1/20: Natural, Human, and Capital Resources 1/27: Maps 2/3: Globes 2/10: Locations and Direction Words 2/17: Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources 2/24: Bodies of Water 3/3: Landforms 3/10: Habitats 3/17: Famous Inventors (Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell) 3/24: Famous Inventors 2 (Maria Beasley The Wright Brothers) 3/31: Famous Inventors 3 (Garrett Morgan, Henry Ford) 4/7: 3 Branches of US Government- Legislative Branch 4/14: 3 Branches of US Government- Executive Branch 4/21: 3 Branches of US Government- Judicial Branch 4/28: George Washington 5/5: Thomas Jefferson 5/12: Abraham Lincoln 5/19: American Symbols 5/26: US Government & Voting Tuesday Classes: 10/22: Past, Present, and Future 10/29: Good Citizenship 11/5: Timelines 11/12: Goods, services, and jobs 11/19: Producers & consumers 11/26: Supply & Demand 12/3: Wants and Needs 12/10: NO CLASS 12/17: Spending and Saving 12/24: NO CLASS 12/31: History of Exchange (Barter, Trade, Money) 1/7: Types of Communities (Rural, Urban, Suburban) 1/14: Natural, Human, and Capital Resources 1/21: Maps 1/28: Globes 2/4: Locations and Direction Words 2/11: Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources 2/18: Bodies of Water 2/25: Landforms 3/4: Habitats 3/11: Famous Inventors (Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell) 3/18: Famous Inventors 2 (Maria Beasley, The Wright Brothers) 3/25: NO CLASS 3/31: Famous Inventors 3 (Garrett Morgan, Henry Ford) 4/7: 3 Branches of US Government- Legislative Branch 4/14: 3 Branches of US Government- Executive Branch 4/21: 3 Branches of US Government- Judicial Branch 4/28: George Washington 5/5: Thomas Jefferson 5/12: Abraham Lincoln 5/19: American Symbols 5/26: US Government & Voting Wednesday Classes: 10/30: Past, Present, and Future 11/6: Good Citizenship 11/13: Timelines 11/20: Goods, services, and jobs 11/27: Producers & consumers 12/4: Supply & Demand 12/11: NO CLASS 12/18: Wants and Needs 12/25: NO CLASS 1/1: Spending and Saving 1/8: History of Exchange (Barter, Trade, Money) 1/15: Types of Communities (Rural, Urban, Suburban) 1/22: Natural, Human, and Capital Resources 1/29: Maps 2/5: Globes 2/12: 2/19: Locations and Direction Words 2/26: Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources 3/5: Bodies of Water 3/12: Landforms 3/19: Habitats 3/26: NO CLASS 4/2: Famous Inventors (Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell) 4/9: Famous Inventors 2 (Maria Beasley, The Wright Brothers) 4/16: Famous Inventors 3 (Garrett Morgan, Henry Ford) 4/23: 3 Branches of US Government- Legislative Branch 4/30: 3 Branches of US Government- Executive Branch 5/7: Branches of US Government- Judicial Branch 5/14: George Washington 5/21: Thomas Jefferson 5/28: Abraham Lincoln 6/4: American Symbols 6/11: US Government & Voting Thursday Classes: 10/31: Past, Present, and Future 11/7: Good Citizenship 11/14: Timelines 11/21: Goods, Services, & Jobs 11/28: NO CLASS 12/5: Producers & consumers 12/12: Supply & Demand 12/19: Wants and Needs 12/26: Spending and Saving 1/2: History of Exchange (Barter, Trade, Money) 1/9: Types of Communities (Rural, Urban, Suburban) 1/16: Natural, Human, and Capital Resources 1/23: Maps 1/30: Globes 2/6: Locations and Direction Words 2/13: Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources 2/20: Bodies of Water 2/27: Landforms 3/6: Habitats 3/13: Famous Inventors (Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell) 3/20: Famous Inventors 2 (Josephine Cochrane, The Wright Brothers) 3/27: Famous Inventors 3 (Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford) 4/3: 3 Branches of US Government-Legislative Branch 4/10: 3 Branches of US Government- Executive Branch 4/17: 3 Branches of US Government- Judicial Branch 4/24: George Washington 5/1: Thomas Jefferson 5/8: Abraham Lincoln 5/15: American Symbols 5/22: US Government & Voting **************************************************************************************************************************************** *Your learner can join any time without feeling left out or behind :) Each class will include a slide show with interactive games and activities, as well as a drawing activity that the learner can complete and share at the end of class. Hi friends! My name is Miss Mackenzie. Welcome to my profile!
The classes that I love to teach are social studies, geography, and circle time for young learners!
I graduated from Indiana University in 2019 with my bachelors degree in Allied Health Sciences. I worked as an ABA Therapist/Registered Behavior Technician for over 3 years. I worked primarily with elementary aged kiddos on the autism spectrum! I have been teaching online since 2021 and love every minute of it.
My teaching philosophy includes setting my learners up for success, as well as having fun in the classroom! I like to utilize games, activities, and art. I want each student to succeed and feel safe when I am their teacher! I truly believe that learners learn best when they are having fun. This is why each of my classes feature some sort of drawing or sharing activity.
I absolutely love being a mom and spending time with family! I have a three year old daughter, a one year old daughter, and a fur baby (a four year old silver Labrador Retriever.) I'm from the Midwest and I love camping, boating, and pretty much anything outdoors!
