Love soccer but never understood what the guys with the funny accents on the TV were talking about? Well, come join me, an English Football Association-qualified coach and I'll help you navigate through all that confusing rules and terminology. From the offside rule to the infamous VAR, during my discussion-based class, students will learn all things 'football'. They will also learn how to respect others' opinions, how to politely express themselves, and build confidence along the way in a fun yet structured social learning environment. Weekly breakdown (1st 6 weeks) : Week 1 The Basics of Soccer - Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game. They'll develop conversation and social skills as we discuss the football pitch, the referee, formations, positions, and more. As well as this, students will practice critical thinking as they get the chance to the coach! Week 2 The Offside Rule - We'll discuss FIFA's definition of the rule, and students will get the chance to be the Assistant Referee and determine whether a player is offside from the two examples. Week 3 The English Football League Pyramid - How the English Football League works, what are promotion and relegation and why are they so important? Week 4 The Road to The World Cup - Students will learn all about the greatest tournament in the world. How teams qualify, how the finals work, and we'll also discuss the U.S's chances of being crowned world champions Week 5 The Backpass Rule - Students will study one of the most important modifications in modern-day soccer and find out just why this rule change was so successful. Week 6 UEFA Champions League - Students will learn about the most coveted club competition in Europe, if not the world. By the end of this class, students will learn how the tournament works, how teams qualify, and why it's so important. Week 7 The Match Officials - We'll discuss who they are, their job, and what significant decisions they have to make. Week 8 Set Pieces - Students will learn what a Set-Piece is, and how important they are in soccer and watch and analyze some famous set-piece goals. Week 9 20 Essential Soccer Terms - When it comes to soccer, there are many different terms and phrases that people use to explain an aspect of the game. This week, we’re going to focus on what I believe are the 20 most essential soccer terms to know the meaning of, to really understand what people are talking about when they’re talking about soccer. Week 10 VAR - The Video Assistant Referee was introduced to the world of soccer three years ago and has caused nothing but controversy ever since. Students will find out why and what it is and form their opinion on soccer's latest innovation. Week 11 5 skills Needed to Become a Successful Player - In soccer, the ultimate aim is to score more goals, but is it as easy as professional players make it look? The smooth, professional play we see on TV takes players a lifetime of exercise and practice to master. This week we focus on the 5 most important soccer skills to help students become successful soccer players. Week 12 Tactics, formations, and strategies - Students will learn the difference between tactics, formations, and strategies, discuss successful examples of them in the past and learn precisely why understanding them is not just crucial to coaches but for players too. Week 13 Diving - The biggest problem in soccer right now, but what exactly is it? This week students will learn exactly what diving is, where it originated from, why it is so harmful to our beautiful game, and what referees around the world are trying to do to eradicate it. Week 14 Soccer Rivalries - Celtic vs. Rangers. Boca Juniors vs. River Plate. Manchester United vs. Manchester City. Whether it’s bragging rights in school, work, or the family, nothing quite revs football fans up like a clash with their fiercest rivals, otherwise known as a ‘derby.’ But what exactly is a 'derby'? is there a difference between 'derbies' and rivalries? and where did the term 'derby' come from? This week students will learn about the fiercest soccer rivalries in the world and why these matches are so important.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello, my name is Ross Hanson and I am a TEFL certified teacher, as well as a Football Association of Wales qualified coach. My goal in my lessons is to provide a fun and relaxed environment, where students can learn about what they enjoy while gaining important social skills along the way.
I hope to prompt students to think creatively and explore their natural curiosity. I want them to feel that no question is too silly to ask.
In my class, students will learn and understand terminology, tactics and how to analyze a match, while at the same time discussing all things soccer.
I also have over two years of experience teaching English as a foreign language and have found that students learn best when discussing something that they love.
Adding to the aforementioned two years of teaching, I have also coached youth soccer for three years, two years in the USA and one year in the UK.
I have a National Diploma in Sport, a Football Association of Wales C Certificate and a 120-hour TEFL Certificate.
I love sports and if I'm not watching or playing soccer, then you'll find me on a board either on snow or water depending on the season :)
My second love is to travel and I have been to thirty countries so far and counting...
I really enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories, so feel free to ask me anything.
I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom soon :)
Bye for now, Ross
