Orientación para padres
Garden snails are hermaphrodites, meaning that they can produce both male and female gametes (sperm and eggs). Reproduction is usually sexual, although self-fertilization sometimes occurs. While the reproductive habits of snails are actually very interesting, due to the age group that this class is designed for, discussions will be steered toward comments such as: "They lay their eggs in the soil." If it comes up, I will state that ALL snails are the same and all of them can lay eggs. I will state that there are no female snails and there are no male snails and that all snails are the same gender. If students continue to ask further questions, I will advise them that this particular class is not designed to discuss this topic, but that they should definitely speak to their parent or guardian about ways that they can further explore it as it is indeed fascinating and there is a lot more to learn.
