In this small group, students will build their language comprehension to become stronger readers! Aspects of language comprehension studied in this class include background knowledge, vocabulary, oral language and text structure. Students can expect to listen to a content-rich text, discussing vocabulary, language structure, and story elements throughout the read-aloud. Students will also have opportunities to build and enhance their background knowledge by making guided text-to-text and text-to-self connections. This class will be structured as an interactive read-aloud, relying on student discussion to lead conversations and direct future learning. Week 1: Making Text-to-Self Connections Week 2: Vocabulary Week 3: Phrases and Sayings Week 4: Story Elements
