I hold a science endorsement on my current and valid teaching certificate. I have 28 years public school teaching experience including 4 years as the science specialist teaching students science in grades K-8. I am certified by the Buck Institute in Problem Based Learning (PBL) and STEM. I developed science curriculum for a school system in Georgia and am a Science Ambassador for the state of Georgia. I have received extensive training in the Next Generation Science Standards.

Work completed outside of class will not be a typical expectation for this semester long course.
Evaluación
Frecuencia: incluido
Detalles: On-going formative assessment based on learner participation will be conducted. Feedback will be provided to learners and their adults regularly. End of course evaluations and home school assessments will be completed upon request. The teacher is available to answer questions and provide feedback or evaluations as needed throughout the course.
All learners are welcome.
A composition notebook is an ideal tool for keeping vocabulary terms as well as diagrams of science concepts. Setting up a "maker space" area is helpful which includes materials and supplies such as different types of tapes, stapler, hole punch, colored pencils, markers, pencils, graph paper, etc. The teacher will post a materials supply list the week before the lesson which will usually include low cost, recycled or common materials.
Learners and parents will be provided with weekly updates for the following week. In weeks that include projects, students may need to use scissors or other materials which may need supervision. To ensure learner safety, it is suggested that adult guidance is provided when using scissors or when the teacher posts a parental guidance note in the weekly updates. It is suggested learners have access to safety goggles and gloves when using materials in class such as baking soda, vinegar or lemon juice. There will be some weeks where break-out rooms will be used. The use of break-out rooms will be communicated one week before their intended use in the weekly class updates.

There are no third-party tools used in this class.
Teacher or class created sources are used in this class and are noted with an * in the weekly objectives listed in the description.

The Next Generation Science Standards (nextgenscience.org) are used as source materials for the curriculum. Learners will not access this source, but guardians are encouraged to visit the source.
