Experiencia de clase

Do you enjoy learning new concepts through music? In this course, I will teach you "Multiplication Songs" to learn your multiplication facts! This three-day course will cover the following facts: 3s, 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, and 12s. As a fun bonus, I will challenge students to come up with a fun song to learn the other facts we didn't cover in the course. The background knowledge needed for success in this course is the ability to skip count and write independently.

On Day 1: We will begin with an introduction to the multiplication chart. When introducing the chart, I will teach the students how to set up the chart using a pencil and a highlighter. We will then write our 1's, and 2's in the chart since these will be basic facts easy to memorize. After that, we will learn the song for the 3's and 4's and fill in the multiplication chart. We will also fill in our 5's column today and students will be given the challenge to create their own song or rhyme to memorize the 2's or 5's.
Once we have sung the songs, I will review how to use the chart to determine solutions to problems such as 3x3; 2x4; 1x3, etc. This will help ensure the students know how to use the chart.

Day 2: We will review the multiples learned from the first lesson and ask for volunteers who may have created a song for the 2s and 5s. Then we will continue on our chart for 6's, 7's and 8's. We will learn and sing each song and then use our multiplication charts to solve problems such as 6x7; 8x3; 6x5, etc.
Students will be challenged to come up with a catchy song or rhyme for the 10's!

Day 3: We will begin by asking for volunteers to share their 10's rhyme or song with the group. Then, we will fill in our multiplication chart for the 10's and ask if anyone notices a pattern. Lastly, we will fill in our 9's, 11's and 12's columns and learn the songs for 9's and 12's.

I love to finish off the course by singing through all of the songs once.

This course is designed to teach songs that help students recognize multiples. The songs do not use lyrics with the numbers. Your child will learn the multiples of each number (3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12) and how to use that knowledge to fill in a multiplication chart that will help them build their knowledge of multiplication!

The songs will be sung to the tune of popular nursery rhymes such as: The Wheels on the Bus, Frere Jacques, This Old Man, and more! We are going to have so much fun being silly and learning our multiplication facts at the same time!

Please come to class ready to sing and have a great time. Participation is huge in feeling success with this course. For those who enroll, you will also receive access to the PowerPoint that I used to teach the course as well as a YouTube video that showcases me singing each one of the songs.

Learning through music is such a fun and effective way to learn new skills. In my years of teaching, I have been fortunate enough to learn this amazing strategy from fellow colleagues and have seen the love of learning students have when blending music with math. I have noticed more students grasping and retaining their multiplication facts through using music as a tool to teach the skill.
