Experiencia de clase

Let's explore the world of science by completing Simple Science Experiments! Together learners will follow along with step-by-step instructions in which they will ask questions, test their hypothesis and make observations about their results. The purpose of this class is to help learners better understand science in a fun and hands on way!

Topics that will be covered will include concepts from physics, chemistry, and biology. We will learn about physics concepts like how air moves under pressure and about reflective light. Chemistry concepts like how ink can separate into different colors and how to make oobleck (a fan favorite) which acts as both a liquid and a solid. As well biology concepts such as what is living in the soil around your home and how to grow your own plants from dried seeds!

This is an on-going class so feel free to join in on any experiments that interest your learner! >>>>No prior knowledge is needed<<<< Learners will be responsible for coming to class with the prepared materials that are listed for that weeks experiment but feel free to email me with questions about substitute materials. During each session learners will follow along as I provide step-by-step instructions how to complete the experiment as well as a mini lesson on the science behind the experiment. This is an open mic class (as long as background noise is at a minimum) so that students are free to ask questions, answer questions and have discussions about the experiment without the need to constantly un-mute themselves. As a teacher I am a firm believer that students learn best when they are part of the conversation within the lesson and not just listening to a lecture.

*Note that due to the nature of this class, like students needing more help setting up an experiment or asking lots of questions (which is NOT a bad thing), some session may go over time by 5-10 minutes in order to complete the experiment or project. Please plan accordingly. I would not want you to have to rush through your experiment to go to another class.

All materials will be posted on our classroom page the weekend before class. Materials for this class include items you typically already have at home. Click link for a complete material list https://tinyurl.com/simplesciencemasteriallist

Topic Outline
⇢ Week of Feb 27th - Spider Slider: See the gripping force, known as friction, at work in this experiment.
⇢ Week of Mar 6th - Bottle Flute: Find out how blowing into bottles can make musical notes.
⇢ Week of Mar 13th - Pinhole Projector: Try this experiment and see the world upside down.
⇢ Week of Mar 22nd - Wind Vane: Watch the weather change with this breezy activity
⇢ Week of Mar 27th - Quacking Duck: Experiment with vibrations to make a strangely familiar sound.
⇢ Week of Apr 3rd - Storm in a Glass: Find out how clouds make rain!
⇢ Week of Apr 12th - Strawberry DNA: Extract the DNA from a strawberry!
⇢ Week of Apr 17th - Skittles Rainbow: Create your own rainbow using the sugar from skittles.
⇢ Week of Apr 26th - Ice Cream in a Bag: Learn about chemistry while making a tasty treat!
⇢ Week of May 1st - Rubber Band Propellor Plane: Is elastic tension enough to make something fly?
⇢ Week of May 8th - Kinetic Sand: Discover the phenomenon behind this sticky but oh so fun sand!
⇢ Week of May 15th - Anemometer: You can’t see how fast wind is blowing, or can you?
⇢ Week of May 22nd - Bouncing Bubble: Can you touch a bubble without popping it?

Metas de aprendizaje

Each week students will learn about a different science concept from physics, chemistry, or biology.

Orientación para padres
Some supervision may be needed with using scissors and hot glue. I recommend hot glue for most of the experiments to have a better outcome. However you may messaged me before any class that these materials to either prep your student before or to determine if they could potentially complete the experiment on their own.

Hello learners!!! My name is Miss Jessica and I have been teaching science to all ages for the past 8 years. I am super excited to teach your learners about the world of science using a fun hands-on learning approach. I believe that children learn best when they are fully engaged through kinesthetic learning.

Experience includes:
- Bachelors of Science in Biology from Cal Poly Pomona
- Single Subject Science Teaching Credential
- 8 years teaching experience with High School, Middle School and Elementary
- Environmental Science, Biology, Physical Science and Physics
- Homeschool Mom and Part Time Charter School Teacher

My goal as a teacher is to encourage students to become more interested in science so they will want to learn more about the world around them. Science is in everything we do and many times students aren’t fully aware until a new light is shined upon a particular topic. My favorite part of teaching is, of course the science experiments, as well as the moment when a student learns the science behind something they were already familiar with but from taking my class learned and now appreciate a deeper understanding.
