Students will participate in a short discussion about artist Howard Pyle. We will also learn how is art inspired modern day movies. He is most known for his pirate paintings. We will look at a variety of his paintings and discuss how they influenced movies. We will also look at the process of his work and the materials that he used. Students will create their own ship in a bottle drawing using the materials they provide. I will be drawing along with the students. This is a step-by-step drawing class. I will be drawing with the students giving instructions. This class is easily adapted to all ages because I model using lines and shapes. Learning Objectives Students will be able to: • explore a variety of art materials • analyze a painting. • use inspiration from real and imaginary sources The above image was created by a 5th grade student.

I try to keep cost at a minimum. I will be flexible with items and hope that you have some of them at home. White construction paper or sketchbook, preferably size 12x18, a ruler, and a box of at least 24 quantity crayons. If a ruler is not available, something with a straight edge will work like a tissue box or book. If you have other materials such as markers, colored pencils, or watercolor paints, I can show you how to complete the project using a variety of materials.
