Students can select 1 of 3 options to complete their project. Please allow your student to select the option that best accommodates their needs. Option 1. List – Create a written list with the names of the grocery items and the corresponding digraph (e.g., "cheese - ch," "shampoo - sh"). Option 2: Photos – Make a photo collage or scrapbook that shows the items you found, labeling each item with its corresponding digraph. **Class Experience Summary: Shelves Full of Sounds: Phonics Through Grocery Store Exploration** In "Shelves Full of Sounds: Phonics Through Grocery Store Exploration," children will learn to recognize and apply phonetic sounds with a focus on consonant blends (ch, sh, th,) in a real-world context. We will cover key phonics skills, including letter sounds, blends, and word families, all while interacting with items found in a grocery store. By connecting the phonetic sounds to everyday objects, learners will gain a deeper understanding of how sounds and words work in the world around them. **Class Structure:** The class is structured to be highly interactive and hands-on. It will begin with an introduction to phonetic sounds using a brief interactive discussion, followed by a “grocery store adventure.” Each student will explore various aisles of the store with guidance, identifying words and matching them to their corresponding sounds. **Teaching Methodology:** My teaching style is dynamic, engaging, and child-centered. I’ll use real objects, games, and activities to make phonics fun and memorable. Through small group discussions, scavenger hunts, and role-playing, learners will actively participate in discovering phonics in action. I’ll provide visual aids, games, and encourage hands-on exploration of the grocery store setting. **Student Interaction:** Students will be encouraged to interact with me through engaging, hands-on activities. There will be opportunities for both individual and group learning as we explore different sections of the store, with plenty of chances for children to ask questions and share their findings. The class will include some mini-lectures to introduce new concepts, followed by fun phonics games, discussions, and activities where kids actively search for items to match with phonetic sounds. The focus is on keeping learning fun and social, making every child feel involved in the learning process. By the end of the class, your child will be excited about reading and more confident in their phonics skills, having seen firsthand how learning happens everywhere!
