Set your student up for success this year. In this self-paced class, students will watch a recorded presentation on goal setting, define what success means to them, learn how to set SMART goals, and create a vision board for the upcoming school year. For this class, I will post a recorded slide presentation lesson covering the following topics: Lesson 1: Growth Mindset: A growth mindset means that you thrive on challenges and don't see failure as a way to describe yourself but as a springboard for growth and developing your abilities. Students will be asked to share a personal story about a time they had to work hard to get better at something. They will be asked to share the strategies they used. Lesson 2: Definition of Success: There will be a recorded short lesson about different definitions of success. Students will be asked to share their personal definition of success using the classroom chat board. Lesson 3: SMART Goals: Explanation of SMART Goals, Goal Setting, and Examples. Students will be asked to write their own goal in the SMART Goal Format to share with the class or myself for feedback. Students can turn in the assignment attached to the lessons using the message feature in the classroom or directly to the classroom chat stream and will be given feedback. The culminating project for Lesson 4 will include creating a vision board, which is a poster with pictures of student goals. This can be done digitally, on regular paper, or on poster paper. Directions and examples will be posted. I will be available to answer questions throughout the week using the out-of-school classroom.

Materials needed for this class: Paper and writing instrument for taking notes and writing out goals. Supplies for a vision board. If learners want to create their vision board on paper or poster they will need: 1. construction paper or poster board, a piece of white copy paper will work as well. 2. scissors 3. glue 4. colored markers or colored pencils Learners may want to create their vision board using an online program such as Slides, Docs, Canva, or any other program they are familiar with that will allow them to create a poster. I have used Canva and Google Slides to create posters in the past and they work well.

I am a former a High School Family and Consumer Science teacher. I have taught Life Skills and Adulting 101 for the past 12 years.
I have created a series of classes to help you get the most out of your high school years and prepare you for living on your own. Take one, take some, or take them all. Examples of what you can look forward to are classes on budgeting, career exploration, positive communication skills, time management and developing good study habits, coping with stress, and sewing, as well as some courses perfect for the high school senior like choosing the perfect roommate and renting your first apartment and cooking healthy meals on a budget, just to name a few. They say "Adulting is Hard" but it doesn't have to be!
