In this 10 week class, your learner will dive into the world of business!  The first 3 weeks explore a basic, draft business plan for a real OR imagined business.  Weeks 4-10 dive into topics that support a robust business plan like visuals, sustainability, and social media marketing.  This is a highly interactive, conversational class that practices critical thinking, problem solving, and adaptability/flexibility.  Weekly breakdown:

Week 1:  Class introductions; elements of a business plan
Week 2:  What goes into pricing your product or service
Week 3:  How personality and strengths/challenges can impact/improve your business
Week 4:  Social media marketing platforms (esp Facebook, Youtube, Instagram) and best practices
Week 5:  Defining what sustainability means for you and your business
Week 6:  Speak confidently about your business through self awareness, honing your value proposition
Week 7:  Visuals for your business Part 1: Design your logo and tag line, explore brand colors (Canva)
Week 8:  Visuals for your business Part 2: Designing an engaging post for social media (Canva)
Week 9:  Visuals Part 3: Flexible class on one or more of: websites, craft fair table setup, product design
Week 10:  Final learner presentations and teacher/peer feedback

This class requires very little materials - just a journal and a notebook.  Any worksheets posted in the classroom can be printed OR filled out digitally OR answers jotted in a notebook.  The Canva classes require a Canva account (free or paid) and access to Canva on the app or website.  Please ensure before signing up for this class that your learner can access Canva on a phone or computer, as I cannot troubleshoot Canva log-in issues during class.

Homework is assigned between classes, but is optional.  If you would like your learner to have accountability for homework, please message me in advance, and I will check in with them periodically via messaging.  Students present a final presentation during the last class.  I offer 6+ formatting options (verbal report, video, drawings, etc) so the student has lots of flexibility in how to complete it.

NOTE:  This class will only run with 3 or more learners, due to the interactive and collaborative nature of the class.  

A note about my classroom guidelines: learners can be wiggly, distracted, and sensory seeking, and that's totally normal! I try to create spaces that are supportive, cozy, and interactive. Because some behaviors can be distracting for classmates, I will share a basic set of guidelines at the beginning of class. I want to make sure that all students are cared for, and reducing on-camera distractions is part of that!
1)  Video on or off (after verification)!  Discussions can be verbal or in *on-topic* chats.
2)  Be respectful; don't interrupt; raise your (physical or digital) hand!  Don't intentionally distract other students (e.g. putting things directly in front of the camera)
3)  Because they can be quite distracting, this class does not allow video filters, avatars, or background changes (except blur).
4)  If necessary, I will move a disruptive student to the waiting room.  If appropriate, I will let them back in for another chance to stay in class respectfully.  If this occurs and you have questions, please reach out to Support.
5)  Any racist, homophobic, body shaming, violent or inappropriate language/images will result in removal from class.  If this happens, you may email outschool@support.com with any questions.  

A few other notes:
-  Please click your meeting link 2-3 minutes early so we can start class on time!  
-  Per OS policy, if there are no students in the classroom 10 minutes after class starts, I will log off and end class.  (If you're having tech issues trying to enter the classroom, just send a message or post in the classroom, so I know you are there!)
-  If you cannot attend, please let me know at least 24 hours before class starts, so I can transfer you to a different section (when possible).  When it might not be possible: if you ask for a transfer for a multiday class the day before it starts, and your transfer will result in the class dropping below the learner minimum, I may not be able to offer a transfer.  But if I can, I will!
-  Class recordings are not automatically shared; they will be made available when possible.  Please note, new OS policy is that a learner can't watch a video until they have attended class, unless they are a verified learner.
-  Learners are encouraged to advocate for how they would like to participate.  If your learner needs adult help (e.g. adult on screen, adult answers for child or facilitates answers, adult takes notes), please let me know in advance per OS parent guidance.

Class is interactive but students can interact a) verbally, b) via chat, c) in messages after class or d) some other format they prefer. Class presentations are highly flexible in format.
Orientación para padres
If/when topics like outside website and social media marketing are discusses, website will not be linked. Safety will be an underlying theme for all social media marketing discussions.

Nothing is required, but a paper and pen are useful.  Any resources posted in the classroom are optional for printing, as we will go over them in class.
