Necesidades de aprendizaje
This class is designed to support students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other learning disabilities with a low reading level book. Students can use graphic organizers, create videos, or draw to respond to class posts and videos.
Orientación para padres
This award winning graphic novel is based on the experiences of the author and his sons as African American students in New York private schools. As such "New Kid" discusses topics such as unconscious bias, bullying, and systemic racism. The book has been banned in several school districts because it addresses these topics. I believe that the reality inspired experiences that the author shares throughout the book are valid and that students will gain valuable lessons in empathy and awareness of unconscious bias from reading this book. Preconceptions and stereotypes are addressed in a factual way that involves all characters. Many characters become aware of their biases and begin to change the way that they view others.
