Have you ever had to have a discussion with a teacher or another adult about your grade or performance? Have you ever been in a class or at a job and there is something that you do not understand? In this course, learners will understand and practice techniques for self-advocacy. In my years of teaching (and with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology), I find that the most successful students are able to ask questions and get clarification while developing their interpersonal skills. Students will learn three psychologically-proven techniques for communication, practice having a conversation with a teacher, and learn how to craft an email to an adult. After this class, learners will feel confident in talking to authority figures and articulating their thoughts!

Hi there! My name is Bridget Bowers and I am a former high school English teacher and currently work in university admissions access and student support. I love teaching classes about topics that students need to be successful in college with their admissions requirements, writing, grammar, and literature classes. As teacher and admissions consultant, I have the inside scoop as to what we are looking for in a top student!
I was a full-time high school English Language teacher for five years before moving into college access work. I currently work with high school districts and community based organizations to support students in their college search and admissions. My passion is helping students develop their writing and study skills in order to find their best life path. Writing is something that is applicable regardless of what field you go into. I use my degrees in English and Psychology when developing courses to best-fit student needs and mental health trends. My courses focus on writing skills and workshops, executive functioning and study skills, as well as literature studies. I run interactive classes with lots of student engagement; I am happy to do one on one tutoring as well.
My psychology experience has given me an inside look into the way that students best learn; I believe in empathy and compassion while teaching. I find it crucial to get to know students and their individual needs. Each learner is different, and an online format provides us the unique opportunity to do just that. I believe that a course (both in-person and online) is most powerful when students are able to give feedback about their experience. I end my classes asking students for their input about the lesson and what they would like to see in the future. Their voice matters!
In my free time I love reading (of course), teaching myself how to play guitar, spending time with friends, and hiking when I am able to visit my family home in Colorado.
I hope that you enjoy my classes! See you soon!
