Please read to your learner/s as often as possible, letting them see the words on the page. This will help them to recognise that letters make sounds and that the sounds blend into words naturally.

Reading is the best thing you will ever learn to do!

Come and learn all the phonic sounds in phases 2 to 5 as well as how to sight-read tricky words that you can't sound out. You will learn first how to sound out and then how to read cvc (consonant, vowel, consonant),ccvc (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) and cvcc (consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant) words and simple sentences.

In week one, 27th November, you will begin to learn phase 2 phonic sounds by looking at the letters, listening to how they sound, and repeating the sounds you hear. You will write the letters for yourselves!
In week two, 4th December, you will continue learning phase 2 phonic sounds by looking at the letters, listening to how they sound, and repeating the sounds. You will also write the letters for yourselves!
In week three, 11th December, you will continue learning phase 2 phonic sounds and begin to learn phase 3 phonic sounds by looking at the letters, listening to how they sound, and repeating the sounds. You will also write the letters for yourselves!
In week four, 18th December, you will continue to revise phase 2 phonic sounds and continue learning phase 3 phonic sounds by looking at the letters, listening to how they sound, and repeating the sounds. You will also begin to blend simple cvc words. You will be writing simple words!

As time passes, you will be introduced to more phonic sounds as well as 'tricky words' (which are words that can't be read by sounding them out). You will learn phase 4 and phase 5 phonics and how to blend and read even more cvc, ccvc and cvcc words.

Come and learn the magic of the written word so you can lose yourself in magical storybooks!

Note: What we are learning will be updated every week.

Orientación para padres
Your children may need help writing the sounds and words as they learn them. If you could ask them to say the sound out loud as they trace and write it, it will help embed their understanding. You can also help your child by asking them to tell you whenever they see the sounds of the day in written form as this will help them to understand that sounds blend together to make words. This could be in books you read with them, or in a newspaper, or on notices, in shops you visit (Covid allowing!) - there are signs everywhere that you could point out to help them. The park is a good place for signs - there may be 'keep off the grass' or 'please do not feed the ducks' signs. Words are all around us - if you can help your child see them, it will help them learn.

I have taught phonics (and English in general) for more years than I care to think about! It is an area I am extremely passionate about because I truly believe that a child who enjoys reading and writing has a real head-start to lifelong learning.
